{"id":1561,"date":"2016-05-28T12:26:53","date_gmt":"2016-05-28T11:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nyuz.elte.hu\/?p=1561"},"modified":"2016-05-28T12:26:53","modified_gmt":"2016-05-28T11:26:53","slug":"tales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nyuz.elte.hu\/?p=1561","title":{"rendered":"Tales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Three Billy Goats Gruff<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once upon a time there were three Billy Goats Gruff; Little Billy Goat, Middle Sized Billy Goat and Great Big Billy Goat, who lived in a field in a green valley.\u00a0 They loved eating sweet grass, but sadly their field became brown and barren because they were greedy goats and they\u2019d eaten every last blade of grass.\u00a0 They were still hungry anyway. In the distance they could see a field that was full of lush sweet scrummy grass, but alas there was only one way to get to it \u2013 over a rickety bridge over a stream.\u00a0 However under the bridge lived a horrifyingly terrifying terrible troll called Trevor \u2013 he was always hungry too.\u00a0 And there was nothing he would haveliked better than to eat a nice juicy Billy Goat.<\/p>\n<p>The Little Billy Goat was the first to reach the bridge.\u00a0 Gingerly he put one hoof and then another onto the bridge but because it was so rickety, however hard he tried, his hoof still went trip-trap, trip-trap on the wooden planks.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly there was a huge roar. <em>\u2018Who\u2019s that trip-trapping over my bridge?\u2019<\/em> and out from under the bridge loomed the Troll.<\/p>\n<p>Quaking in his hooves, Little Billy Goat Gruff managed to squeak <em>\u2018It\u2019s only me.\u00a0 I\u2019m only going to look for some grass to eat.\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh no you\u2019re not!\u00a0 I\u2019m going to have you for breakfast, lunch and tea!\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh no!\u2019<\/em> said terrified Little Billy Goat Gruff.\u00a0<em> \u2018I\u2019m just Little Billy Goat Gruff.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you wait for my brother?\u00a0 He\u2019s bigger than me and much tastier.\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So the greedy Troll decided to wait and Little Billy Goat Gruff skipped over the bridge and began to eat <a href=\"http:\/\/nyuz.elte.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/05\/story-resources-pdf-the-3-billy-goats-gruff-story-pack-pdf-via-email-delivery-117-p.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1562 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/nyuz.elte.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/05\/story-resources-pdf-the-3-billy-goats-gruff-story-pack-pdf-via-email-delivery-117-p-987x1024.jpg\" alt=\"story-resources-pdf-the-3-billy-goats-gruff-story-pack-pdf-via-email-delivery--117-p\" width=\"399\" height=\"615\" \/><\/a>the fresh green grass on the other side. The other goats saw Little Billy Goat Gruff eating the fresh green grass and were jealous because they wanted some too.\u00a0 So Middle Sized Billy Goat Gruff went down to the bridge and began to cross the stream.\u00a0 Trip, trap, trip, trap went his middle sized hooves.\u00a0 Again the Troll loomed out from under the bridge.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Who\u2019s that trip-trapping over my bridge?\u2019 he roared.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Quaking in his hooves, Middle Sized Billy Goat Gruff managed to say in his softest voice \u2018It\u2019s only me.\u00a0 I\u2019m following my brother, Little Billy Goat Gruff, so I can eat the sweet grass.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh no you\u2019re not!\u00a0 I\u2019m going to have you for breakfast, lunch and tea!\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh no, Mr Troll, you don\u2019t want to eat me.\u00a0 I\u2019m not big enough to fill you up.\u00a0 Wait until my big brother comes along \u2013 he\u2019s much tastier than me.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh all right\u2019<\/em> said the Troll and Middle Sized Billy Goat Gruff scampered over the bridge and began to eat the sweet green grass with Little Billy Goat Gruff.<\/p>\n<p>Big bold Billy Goat Gruff was jealous and couldn\u2019t wait to get across the bridge and join his brothers.\u00a0 So boldly, he put his hooves onto the bridge. Trip, trap, trip, trap.\u00a0 Suddenly the Troll loomed out from under the bridge.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Who\u2019s that-trip trapping over my bridge?\u2019 he boomed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018It\u2019s me. \u00a0Big Billy Goat Gruff.\u00a0 Who do you think you are?\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018I\u2019m the Troll and I\u2019m going to eat you for breakfast, lunch and tea!\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh no, you\u2019re not\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Oh yes I am \u2013 you\u2019ll see!\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then the Troll rushed at Big Billy Goat Gruff who bent his head and bravely charged at the Troll, snatching him up in his horns and tossing it into the stream below.\u00a0 The Troll disappeared under the rushing water, never to be seen again.<\/p>\n<p>From then on, anyone could cross the bridge and enjoy the sweet green grass with the Three Billy Goats Gruff.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Ballad of John Barleycorn<\/strong><br \/>\nby Robert Burns<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There was three kings into the east,<br \/>\nThree kings both great and high,<br \/>\nAnd they hae sworn a solemn oath<br \/>\nJohn Barleycorn should die.<\/p>\n<p>They took a plough and plough\u2019d him down,<br \/>\nPut clods upon his head,<br \/>\nAnd they hae sworn a solemn oath<br \/>\nJohn Barleycorn was dead.<\/p>\n<p>But the cheerful Spring came kindly on,<br \/>\nAnd show\u2019rs began to fall;<br \/>\nJohn Barleycorn got up again,<br \/>\nAnd sore surpris\u2019d them all.<\/p>\n<p>The sultry suns of Summer came,<br \/>\nAnd he grew thick and strong;<br \/>\nHis head weel arm\u2019d wi\u2019 pointed spears,<br \/>\nThat no one should him wrong.<\/p>\n<p>The sober Autumn enter\u2019d mild,<br \/>\nWhen he grew wan and pale;<br \/>\nHis bending joints and drooping head<br \/>\nShow\u2019d he began to fail.<\/p>\n<p>His colour sicken\u2019d more and more,<br \/>\nHe faded into age;<br \/>\nAnd then his enemies began<br \/>\nTo show their deadly rage.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve taen a weapon, long and sharp,<br \/>\nAnd cut him by the knee;<br \/>\nThen tied him fast upon a cart,<br \/>\nLike a rogue for forgerie.<\/p>\n<p>They laid him down upon his back,<br \/>\nAnd cudgell\u2019d him full sore;<br \/>\nThey hung him up before the storm,<br \/>\nAnd turned him o\u2019er and o\u2019er.<\/p>\n<p>They filled up a darksome pit<br \/>\nWith water to the brim;<br \/>\nThey heaved in John Barleycorn,<br \/>\nThere let him sink or swim.<\/p>\n<p>They laid him out upon the floor,<br \/>\nTo work him farther woe;<br \/>\nAnd still, as signs of life appear\u2019d,<br \/>\nThey toss\u2019d him to and fro.<\/p>\n<p>They wasted, o\u2019er a scorching flame,<br \/>\nThe marrow of his bones;<br \/>\nBut a miller us\u2019d him worst of all,<br \/>\nFor he crush\u2019d him between two stones.<\/p>\n<p>And they hae taen his very heart\u2019s blood,<br \/>\nAnd drank it round and round;<br \/>\nAnd still the more and more they drank,<br \/>\nTheir joy did more abound.<\/p>\n<p>John Barleycorn was a hero bold,<br \/>\nOf noble enterprise;<br \/>\nFor if you do but taste his blood,<br \/>\n\u2019Twill make your courage rise.<\/p>\n<p>\u2019Twill make a man forget his woe;<br \/>\n\u2019Twill heighten all his joy;<br \/>\n\u2019Twill make the widow\u2019s heart to sing,<br \/>\nTho\u2019 the tear were in her eye.<\/p>\n<p>Then let us toast John Barleycorn,<br \/>\nEach man a glass in hand;<br \/>\nAnd may his great posterity<br \/>\nNe\u2019er fail in old Scotland!<\/p>\n<p>(if you haven\u2019t realised, this ballad is about how to make beer)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Aquatic warbler<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three Billy Goats Gruff Once upon a time there were three Billy Goats Gruff; Little Billy Goat, Middle Sized Billy Goat and Great Big Billy Goat, who lived in a field in a green valley.\u00a0 They loved eating sweet grass, but sadly their field became brown and barren because they were greedy goats and they\u2019d eaten every last blade of grass.\u00a0 They were still hungry anyway.
